What is Karate
The discipline of karate is translated as being the science of open hand. Translated loosely, kara translates as “open” and te translates as “hand”. Karate in most cases focuses on fighting with empty hands and feet. The fundamental goal behind karate is to turn one’s body into an efficient weapon that is able to protect yourself when appropriate. Very few martial arts supplies are necessary to practice karate.
Karate is viewed as a sport as well as a art of self defense based on the emphasis of the school that is followed. Some teachers of karate place focus on traditional kata, however, others concentrate on working towards competing competitions. Competing is certainly not the sole reason for training in this art. It is very possible to learn karate without joining in competitions – but for many people, competition acts as the driving force to train. The sense of accomplishment that comes from training forms or competing, will be carried over into (your|one’s|} everyday life.
Karate is considered one of the most commonly practiced martial arts. It developed during one of the Japanese occupations of Okinawa, around the Fifteenth century. Its origins, however, can be found quite a while before this. Way back in early India and China. Many people believe that what we today regard as traditional asian martial arts have their origins in India.
Several Styles of Open Hand
There are numeroushundreds of versions of karate taught, so a simple piece of writing such as this is not able to explain all of them. A few of the popular schools include Isshin Ryu, Shotokan and Goju Ryu. One must understand that the various types of karate were developed through the personal ideas of many masters about how the different foundational technique is to be carried out. The many different techniques trained in the types of karate also affect whether speed or strength, hand or leg methods are emphasized. Whereas karate is mostly an open handed martial system, there are a couple types of martial arts equipment that are used.
Karate students wear a karate uniform which is typically a white cotton gi. A belt is worn to show level and to be safe different types of protective equipment are put on for safety while practicing.
