Adult Dyslexia Tests

Posted by admin | Ideas and more | Monday 30 March 2009 1:12 pm

Most of the history of dyslexia has been compressed into the last 25 years. Before that the condition was practically unknown.

Dyslexics see things differently. Their eyes are the same as those of non-dyslexics, but their brains interpret the signals differently. Because of this they learn differently and need to be taught in the way they learn, not in the traditional mold.

In the last 15 years part of elementary school procedure has been to routinely screen for dyslexia in children. Practically all who had problems with reading were selected to go through a full-scale professional dyslexia test and evaluation.

Those who went through grade school more than 15 years ago almost all bear the scars of being hammered into molds that did not fit. They were ridiculed for their differences, looked at as retarded (which most are definitely not!), slow learners, etc. They were embarrassed and learn to hide their differences.

Today there are millions of dyslexic adults still struggling to deal with the world through a dyslexic lens, not realizing that dyslexia is their problem and a simple dyslexia test could set them on the road to life-changing improvements.

One of the problems in helping dyslexics is that there are many different types of dyslexia. Dyslexia takes many different forms; all dyslexics are different. They cannot be readily sorted into categories and then treated the same as a group.

One of the most common dyslexia symptoms among adults is the reluctance to read anything, especially to read aloud. Another is reluctance or inability to take down legible, understandable messages from phone conversations. Still another is a person employed in a much lower position than would seem to be appropriate for his or her intelligence, just to avoid the necessity of reading and paperwork.

Obedience Training for your Dog

Posted by admin | Ideas and more | Sunday 29 March 2009 4:01 pm

Obedience training is one of the most important aspects of having a dog.  When I say training I mean more than just house training your puppy. In fact, if you love your dog and you love being a dog owner, both you and your dog will be happier, easier to live with and get along with, and even safer than if you fail to train your dog.

A well-trained dog is a pleasure to own.  A well-trained dog requires fewer restrictions and a well-trained dog does not create embarrassment and will always reflect well upon his or her owner.

Just to cite a few examples, a well trained dog will not frighten or annoy the visitors to your home with excessive barking, inappropriate jumping or other annoying habits.  Also, a dog that is leash-trained and will heel nicely at his owner’s side and will do a sit command without hesitation is much more welcome in a public place among other people and pets than a rowdy and out-of-control.  The bottom line is that the more reliable and trustworthy your dog is, the more of a pleasure he is to own.  Also, a well-trained dog receives much more positive attention and interaction from other people, be they family members, friends or even people you have never met before.  Nobody enjoys an unruly and ill-mannered dog but a well-trained and obedient dog can melt many hearts.

You are your dog’s leader.  You are the alpha dog.  It is your responsibility to turn your puppy into a well-mannered adult dog.  Training also strengthens the bond between a dog and his or her owner.  It builds mutual respect, communication, understanding and makes it clear to your do that you are the leader of the pack, or what is commonly referred to as the “alpha dog”, if your dog does not respect you as the leader, both of you will encounter problems, especially if your dog is a bit more high strung and rowdy by nature.

A well-trained dog that responds quickly and efficiently to voice commands is also a much safer dog.  Imagine if your dog slipped out of his collar in the middle of a busy intersection, if you can safely heel him back across the street and then have him sit and put his collar back on, many tragedies could be avoided.  Also, if the gate is inadvertently left open and your dog leaves the yard, if he is trained to follow your commands you can quickly bring him back home, saving you time, energy and frustration.

Many of the dogs that end up in shelters do so because of a lack of training by their owners.  It is the owner’s responsibility to train the dog to conform to the family’s rules and to be a good “dog citizen”.  A well-trained dog is also easier to adopt into another family, thereby saving the dog from an untimely end.  Far fewer dogs would end up in shelters if the owners took obedience training seriously. A well-loved and well-trained dog is a pleasure to own.  A rowdy and out of control dog is a hardship to own but it is not the dog who is responsible for that.  It is always the owner.

A well-behaved and properly trained dog is a pleasure to own.  Your dog will be able to go anywhere and do anything without being a nuisance or annoyance to you or to others.

Stuffed Toys – Are They Acceptable for Grown-Ups

Posted by admin | Ideas and more | Sunday 29 March 2009 2:02 pm

Recently, I realized that one of my good friend’s birthdays was coming up, and I had no idea what to get him. I wanted a gift that was thoughtful and showed that I knew him well, and I wanted a gift that he could use and enjoy. I also had a budget, so getting him something expensive like a laptop or new cell phone was out, even though he would obviously benefit from those things. Stumped for ideas, I started surfing the internet. There were almost too many choices, and I quickly became overwhelmed. I found lots of electronics, but since I don’t know enough about the latest and greatest technology, I didn’t dare get him any of them.

In the course of my search, I found a blog that mentioned stuffed animals as a good present. I figured he was too old for toys, and so continued the hunt. But for some reason, the idea continued to stay in my mind as I fruitlessly searched, and I soon decided to re-examine it.

After all, who says toys are only good for kids? Not only do they evoke a certain nostalgia, but there are plenty examples of them being appropriate. Just look at cartoons. Once exclusively for kids, they have evolved into something suitable for everyone. Just look at the popularity of such shows such as Family Guy and The Simpsons, which is definitely marketed for adults. Or consider the superhero genre. Big screen movies based off of various popular superheroes has built interest in these types of merchandise to the masses. There’s no reason stuffed toys couldn’t be enjoyed by adults as well as children.

Once this occurred to me, I set out to search for a plush animal that my friend would enjoy. Unfortunately, he wasn’t an established toy collector, so I had to make sure that the stuffed animal I got him was relevant to his personality or history. Luckily, there are more plush animals available widely today than just the teddy bears of the past. There’s a toy version of practically any animal you can think of, so then I just had to decide what animal would work for him. I looked back at our shared history, and soon found some inspiration.

During our childhood, we used to watch the movie the Wizard of Oz together all the time. In fact, my friend was such a fan that he played the part of the Cowardly Lion in our school play. This was his first acting gig, and soon paved the way for his current successful acting and modeling career. The lion was definitely a meaningful part of his history, and so I began to look for an appropriate plush lion for his birthday gift.

Luckily, there were many available, in tons of different sizes. I picked the one that I liked the most and gave it to him with a nice card that explained the meaning behind it. He loved it! It soon found a place on his couch, facing the TV and keeping him company. Together, they now both can see his achievements whenever one of his ads or movies plays on the television. So as you can see, stuffed animals can be a fantastic gift for adults as well as children. Remember, if you are ever having trouble finding a nice, personal gift for someone, consider getting them a stuffed animal.

Posted by admin | Ideas and more | Sunday 29 March 2009 5:20 am

Do you want to buy spectacles via Internet at a advantageous price? Then you can find offerers of spectacles to get your eyeglasses delivered home very cheaply and quickly. Have you ever thought about ordering your new eyeglasses conveniently on the Internet? There are some good online shops for eyeglasses which can be recommended. Here are described two German mail order houses named Brille24 and Netzoptiker: guenstige Design Brillen online kaufen.

The selection of glasses for men, women and children is very large at both providers and they offer the right spectacles frame for every liking. In addition, you can order each frame at Brille24 in your own size of vision as sunglasses. At the shop of Netzoptiker one finds a huge selection of top-brand sunglasses at low rates. Even with the materials of the frames anybody can find something for their individual liking at the shop of Brille24. There is a wide variety of titanium, titanium-flex, metal and plastic frames. The many positive reviews of happy buyers speak for this vendor. Important for a purchase order at one of the online offerers is to know the exact parameters of the own eyeglasses, that means for instance the size of the glasses in diopter. By having a corneal irregularity you need to know the concerning additional data. If you are not skilled with eyeglasses and do not have the current data you first must visit your oculist and optician. Netzoptiker offers the customers a bonus for a given rating after sale. This bonus will be carried back to the customer at their next order. At Netzoptiker everybody can find their fitting type of eyeglasses: There are full-frame, partial rimless and complete rimless glasses each in plastic and metal available, also semi-glasses, children glasses, sports glasses and designer eyewear. At Netzoptikers shop you can order glasses for a gratis trial only by paying the forwarding charges.

On my last visit to the website of Brille24 that online sender has offered complete spectacles at a price of 21.90 Euros plus mailing expenses – in my opinion an almost unbeatable price. In the online shop of Netzoptiker I even have seen some complete spectacles for 19.00 Euros. The online stores of Brille24 and Netzoptiker are clearly laid out and user-friendly. I love the opportunity to try the offered glasses frames online in each of the shops. You can get a first impression of the spectacles frame by clicking on one of the sample pictures of various facial types and put the frame on such a picture. For the virtual try-on of the frames you can upload your own photograph and then let you show how the various frames fit to your own face. The shots with the tried-on spectacles frames can be send to a friend via e-mail in order to learn from them, which of the selected frames is the best one for you. You can find a German testimonial of Brille24 and Netzoptiker on the following site: guenstige Gleitsicht Brillen online kaufen. At Netzoptikers shop you find a huge selection of famous brands like Ray Ban, Fossil, Giorgio Armani, Burberry, Marc O Polo, Reebok, Bogner and many others. Basic Of Affiliate Revenue

Posted by admin | Ideas and more | Saturday 28 March 2009 4:07 pm

Imagine that you might earn commissions on a well-liked top product making money by placing a link on your site or in your e-mail. That, my buddies, is Affiliate Revenue! OK…

So it isn’t quite that easy, but it does not need to be much more difficult either. An advertiser, or merchant, is the company who is selling a product. An associate, infrequently known as a publisher or partner, is someone else or company who aids in the promotion of the product and earns a commission for doing so. ( that would be you ) In between is the account management service that partners the advertisers with the affiliates and keeps track of the sales and commissions. If you would like to become an affiliate, you first need to select either a product you need to sell, or an account management service.

You may finish up with both, but the choice of one will determine the choice for the other. If you select the product first, the advertiser will direct you to the account management service that they already work with. If you select the account management service first, they are going to provide you with a catalogue of merchants that they deal with. To work out if your favourite product or company offers an affiliate marketing programme, go to their site and check the menu bar or the base of the screen. Look around for the word ‘affiliate’.

They’ll e-mail you all you must know to start. If you do not know what particular product you want to plug, or if you would like to plug many, I counsel browsing the participating merchants on the account management service’s web site. It’s going to be far easier to market to your visitors if you are able to add price to the link you need them to click on. Private suggestions or stories will get way better results than simply a banner or solo text link. Give them an incentive to’click here’. Welcome to the sector of affiliate Marketing! Good luck with your new venture!

Top 5 Questions Asked Before Starting Driving Lessons

Posted by admin | Ideas and more | Saturday 28 March 2009 3:52 pm

When you wish to start learning to drive in the UK, you are bound to have a lot of questions. Here are the top 5 questions new learner drivers tend to ask.

1. What do I need to do before I can start driving?
You must have a Provisional driving Licence. You can obtain this by completing the driving licence application form D1 and photo card application form D750 which are available from most post offices.

2. How often should I have my driving lessons?
As often as you can afford if you wish to pass the driving test quickly. It is recommended though that you have at least 1 session of 1.5 hours per week of regular training. Driving instructors will structure your driving lessons to suit your individual needs. This can often depend on what time you have available and how often you can afford to take lessons.

3. What is the cheapest way of booking my driving lessons?
You can reduce the cost of learning to drive by taking advantage of block booking discounts which most driving schools will offer. Paying for each individual lesson is the most expensive way to learn to drive.  You can often obtain discounts by paying for as little as five lessons in advance there are many driving schools that offer this.

4. How many driving lessons will I need to take?
Every driver is different and will learn at a different pace. The DSA (Driving Standards Agency) mention that those who have passed their driving test have had an average of 45 hours professional tuition and 22 hours of private practice. Your driving instructor should use the DSA driver record so that you can see your strengths & weaknesses and monitor your progress.

5. Do I need to pass the Theory Test before I can start my driving lessons?
Not at all. In fact it is a good idea to learn the theory whilst you are learning the practical side of driving as it can bring the subject alive making it easier to understand and remember. Also, remember that the theory training will help your practical driving and the practical driving will help your theory training.

You can find answers to many more questions you may have or even ask questions at the Driving Knowledge Base / FAQs.

Business Advice On Real Estate Syndicates

Posted by admin | Ideas and more | Saturday 28 March 2009 3:16 pm

We have tried to examine the factors which determine the value of a real estate syndicate and the participating units. Value is relative. You have certainly heard of cases where a person has some valuable property — a painting or such — but cannot find a buyer who wants to pay the price which reflects the true value of the object. There is no ready market for it. Value is often said to be “what a willing buyer would pay to a willing seller.”

When we think of the value of an investment of a unit in a real estate syndicate, we must think of it two ways. First, there is the real value of the income-producing investment. Next, there is the value — the price you will receive — if you want to dispose of your investment in a hurry. These two values may not be the same. If you own a unit in a syndicate which in turn owns good real estate, you have probably a good and safe investment of stable value. But what if you must sell it in a hurry? It is not the same as calling your stock broker, getting the quotation on your stock, and giving the order to sell it.

There are firms which are in the business of selling syndicate participations and who will also try to sell your unit. But you cannot be sure that there will be a ready market for your investment at the time you want to sell. Presently there is no true market for syndicate units similar to the stock market, where you can get immediately the fair and prevailing price for your investment.

Frequently, the consent of the syndicator is required before your buyer may obtain all the rights which you had as a limited partner or a member of the syndicate. Such consent will, in most cases, be readily given. Sometimes a charge is made to make the necessary changes on the books of a syndicate.

At the time of making an investment, you should ask yourself whether in the near future you may have to turn your investment into cash on short notice. If the answer is yes, think again before you buy a unit in a real estate syndicate.

Landscaping Designs for the Yard and Garden

Posted by admin | Ideas and more | Friday 27 March 2009 5:22 pm

You are in need of some landscaping ideas. Previously, it was enough to just mow the lawn. However, now that you have retired, you are in need of a hobby, and you have decided that the hobby is going to be landscaping. That being said, you need to think about landscaping designs for your yard, as well as for the garden.

The first thing that you should do is look at the landscaping designs of the other houses in the neighborhood. This is not to say that you should emulate the landscaping designs of your neighbors, but at the same time you can get ideas from them that you might not have considered otherwise.

A popular landscaping design that many people like to incorporate in their yard is flowers under trees in a circular border manner. However, something that you need to think about if you like this idea is the issue of how much shade various kinds of flowers need. For example, if you want flowers that require a significant amount of sunlight, you should not plant them under a tree that is thick with leaves. You should go for medicinal herbs in that case.

Something else that you need to think about when it comes to landscaping design is whether or not you want to use mulch. Cedar mulch is a popular kind of mulch that people like to use, but unfortunately, the nice redness of the mulch gets lightened over time with sun and rain. However, if you want a kind of mulch that keeps its color longer, there is a new kind of rubber mulch available.

Many people like to incorporate bushes into their landscaping design. This is usually for privacy reasons. If you think that you want to have bushes as well, be aware that they need to be pruned at certain times during the year. If you do not have this done, the bushes can get too large and cumbersome.

The main thing that you need to think about when it comes to planning prior to figuring out definitive landscaping designs is the climate that you have. If you live in a climate that is temperate throughout the year, you have more of an advantage in terms of planting flowers that will last more than one season.

For more information on landscaping designs, go to your local garden center and ask customer service representatives. You can also ask various landscaping companies to come visit your yard and give estimates/ideas. You are sure to find the right landscaping design ideas for your yard with the proper research.

Designing A Web Site For A Specific Screen Resolution is Dead

Posted by admin | Ideas and more | Friday 27 March 2009 5:02 pm

Introduction

As we gradually gained more experience in web design we have learnt to ask the question what size screen resolution should we build this website at? These days I was reading somewhere recently that the only answer to that question should be ‘all of them’ and ‘none of them’. What this basically means is that new websites should be built to accommodate all different screen sizes these days, particularly with the increased popularity of hand help web browsers, smart phones, net books and the like. Of course there is also the other end of the spectrum in the new huge wide screen flat screen monitors. I recently treated myself to a 24 inch Asus which does 1920×1080 which is big enough to get two web browser windows on screen side by side, but if you make one of them full size, the majority or websites look, well, just plain strange!

What exactly is screen resolution then?

If you are not familiar with screen resolution, the simple answer is that it is the size of your display. However, this can be quite misleading because it is actually the number of pixels that make up the display area on the screen of your monitor. Still not clear? Well let’s look at some examples to help clarify exactly what screen resolution is.

Currently what would appear to be the most common screen resolution is 1024×768 (accounting for 62% of my website visitors). This is a screen that is 1024 pixels wide by 768 pixels high. What is a pixel? A Pixel, derived from the phrase Picture Element, is basically one of the thousands of tiny dots that make up your display screen. However, this does not necessarily determine the physical size of your monitor (14 inch, 15 inch, 19 inch etc) because most monitors are capable of displaying the screen in different screen resolutions. It is fairly accurate to say that if you want to run your monitor at a high screen resolution then you will need a large monitor, the larger the monitor the greater the resolution it can display at (assuming your graphics processor can support a high resolution).

All getting a bit technical? Put simply the higher the screen resolution the more things you can fit on your screen before they have to go onto the next line, or before you have to scroll down or scroll right.

What’s this got to do with Web Design?

When creating the graphics for a new website design, traditionally the experienced graphic designer would be working to a specific resolution in order to make sure that the design fits in your browser window without having to scroll right. (Thankfully most website owners don’t demand you make their pages so that you don’t have to scroll down anymore!)

However, if you design it to 1024 pixels wide, when it is viewed in a wider browser resolution such as 1920 for example, setting up an ecommerce web design project you have to decide how to handle the extra width. You can either align the site to the left and just have a huge great big gap to the right. You can centre align the website in the available space and then the extra screen resolution will be on either side of the pages. However, the sensible, modern day approach is to make the site flexible to accommodate all screen resolutions by creating ‘fluid’ content that will flow to fit the available page space irrespective of what size screen resolution it is viewed at.

Also, because of the increased popularity of the web the challenge for a website owner is how to engage your viewers and get them to stay on your website for as long as possible and show them as much content as possible. One way to help with this is to make full use of all of the available space. Two great big blank areas either side of a tiny web page is simply just a waste of space. Imagine if you picked up a newspaper or magazine and only half of the front page had got any content on it, the editor would get the sack for sure! So by creating fluid web pages, web site owners can take advantage of larger publishing spaces available on bigger screen users, whilst optimising content for display on smaller screens as well.

Another advantage with big screen displays is the ability to use the new area for re-publishing. Re-publishing is a way to put content from another area of your website onto a different page, thereby bringing it forward for the viewer. An example of this that we did on one site we created was to insert an alphabetical list of names of the products available on the website underneath the left hand menu on pages that were very long.

All pages tend to be different lengths, as determined by the content on the page, so we used a clever widget to create this list of product names and insert it in the gap until it ran out of space. This was great for SEO too as it gave a direct link to specific product pages based on their product names without having to crawl through category pages first, also website users would often see something in the list they wanted and click straight through to the page and buy the item.

Ultimately this has evolved into what would now be thought of as a web 2.0 ‘tag cloud’ a list of tags that are usually user generated, to indicate and link directly to a specific content group or item. Using a tag cloud is a great way to fill flexible spaces on larger screens that you can fill with what are effectively links to other parts of the website.

How do you make fluid content?

Fluid content is really easy to create, the majority will be words of course, which are naturally fluid so on a small resolution screen you might get 5-10 words to a row, on a larger screen you can get 20-30 words or more. However the challenge comes with images, and particularly website graphics. A photograph, whilst it can be made smaller and larger offline, it can’t be automatically resized by the web browser at the time of viewing (not taking into account the Zoom function in Internet Explorer).

The HTML code that makes up your web pages is again designed to allow fluidity by fitting content into the available page area, so some tips that can be employed to make content fluid include not using tables in the code (which are depreciated these days now anyway), not setting specific screen width in pixels, use 100% instead. By fading images into blocks of colour in the website graphics, you can create a stretchable element that will scale to fit all window sizes. Use little boxes to put stuff in, these can then flow around the screen as required without having to be in any particular place, they also help to draw the eye to special offers, discounts, newsletter sign ups etc, and can of course be styled by your graphic designer with curves and shading and gradients to look great.

Conclusion

Fluid content is the future of website development, it makes your website compatible with the smallest to the largest display types, increases selling and marketing opportunities by providing new publishing space, maximises the amount of available page space for displaying your website content and above all it stops your site looking silly on huge great big screens which, as the prices come down, are becoming more and more popular these days.
