What Is hydroponic gardening

Posted by admin | Ideas and more | Sunday 22 March 2009 1:12 pm

It’s all about marketing. That’s what local growers say about hydroponic gardening. In a time when water and fertile lands to farm are scarce, hydroponic or soilless gardening is considered as a some kind of mana from heaven. Where before farmers where completely at the mercy of the seasons, now they can grow crops throughout the year and yield good harvests no matter the season. That is most direct effect of hydroponics.

The possibility that plants could survive and grow without soil as the nutrient source was first described historically by Woodward in 1699, though the technique has been in practice since the time of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

However, it was only in the 1840s when the principle was applied in modern agriculture. Researchers discovered that by developing a formula containing all the essential nutrients that plants need for growth – nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen dioxide (H20) – the need for soil in growing them may be completely eliminated. Adopting this idea, a number of German botanists soon developed the basic nutrient formulas and growing techniques which are in use today.

With hydroponic gardening, the growing of crops requires as little as 10% as much land as regular farming, and less than 10% as much water. And sometimes, the water used may be even dramatically lessened further if the water is re-circulated.

One key advantage of hydroponic gardening is that the produce is less affected by insects thriving in soil or diseases caused by soil microorganisms. This, of course, means that farmers are less inclined to use insecticide to keep these pests away. The overall result therefore is that you have yourself crops that do not carry traces of insecticide, and can be picked ripe just before eating so preservatives are not required.

Produce such as broccoli, cabbage, celery, chard, cucumbers, eggplant, flowers, grapes, lettuce, melons, onions, peppers, broad beans, radishes, strawberries, and tomatoes have been grown hydroponically.

Another attractive feature of hydroponic gardening is water economy. In arid areas, where precious water must be re-circulated, hydroponic systems may help improve harvest yields. A large volume of hydroponic food can be grown rapidly in a small area. In fact, it has been reported that four heads of lettuce can be raised in the same amount of space required to grown one head of field lettuce.

There are various techniques to hydroponic gardening. In water culture, the roots of the plants are held in a large waterproof tank. The plants are supported by mesh or string, and they get their food from the nutrient formula contained in the tank.

Another form of hydroponics is gravel culture. Considered a more costly system to install and maintain, gravel culture involves a waterproof bench which is filled with inert pea-sized gravel. These are used to support the roots f the plants. Then, a solution containing all the essential nutrients required by the plant is pumped into the gravel from a holding tank. When the bench is full of the solution, the pump is turned off and the solution drains back to the holding tank.

The solutions for both systems are replenished periodically. And for lighting, a number of grow light devices are available used to automate lighting for plants.

Posted by admin | Ideas and more | Friday 20 March 2009 1:28 pm

So why is my yorkie always so excited to use my pee pads? There are a few different reasons I will share with you. I strongly believe that when a dog does something right you must reward them. Whether it be a treat or love. When potty training my dog I always give here a treat after each use on the puppy pads. When I would leave the house for a few hours she would wait for me to get home. The reason??? She wanted that treat after I watched her go potty. Always remember to be consistent in your training.

Make sure when using housebreaking pads that you change them regularly. If they build up to much potty mess, the dog will want to go other places. My yorkie will wait for me to change them and immediately run over and potty on them right after. Then she patient waits for her reward. In the beginning make sure you regularly take your dog to there potty area.

Pee-pads.com is the best place to buy puppy pads. Buying in bulk can save you a lot of money. They offer 3 different sized pee pads to fit your potty area needs. The smallest size is 17”x24”. Posted by admin | Ideas and more | Thursday 19 March 2009 2:21 pm

On the German insurance market there are different dog assurance providers. As a dog owner it is difficult to find the right insurance offerer and plan for your specific needs. How are you able to find the favorite pet liability assurance at an affordable rate? This Internet site gives a free comparison of German pet liability insurances: guenstige Hundeversicherung. There the customer can retrieve a personal dog liability assurance comparison in a few moments. One will obtain the best pet liability insurance quotation out of a great number of assurance vendors.

Who should effect pet liability assurance? Every responsible pet owner should have a liability insurance against the possible damage. Because every pet once could induce harm. Here are different important aspects which should be considered when looking for your individual German pet owner assurance offerer online:

If your dog causes an accident or other damage, the injured victim will charge you personally if you do not have a dog liability assurance. Then you will have to cover with your complete private assets for possible harm. A dog owner assurance gives you the convenient feeling of not being alone in case of accident and takes over a huge cost risk for you.

With a liability insurance for your pet you can also get help if unauthorized demands are put on you as the owner. It is not necessary to visit all the dog owner insurance offerers in person when you are in need of a good solution. The customer can get an online comparison and even effect pet owner assurance on this site: Hundehalterversicherung online. The convenient annual premium payment for a pet owner insurance protects you from a high financial risk. By arranging a deductible you can obtain mentionable savings concerning the premium payment.

Your dog liability insurance also covers the legal expenses of the injured individual, which you had to pay by yourself when not having such coverance. With such assurance, the clerk of your assurance works for you on the claims made by the injured person. So you have a professional by your side to decide which claims are right and which are not.

Without having a dog owner insurance, you must deal by yourself with the charges of the injured party or you need to commission a solicitor to do so for you. Not having a pet owner insurance every pet owner has a very high risk of liability when their animal friend once causes damage. When the dog crosses the street and causes a traffic accident, you can be held responsible for all injury of humans and crash of cars.

SImple ways to give your house a makeover

Posted by admin | Ideas and more | Wednesday 18 March 2009 4:04 pm

This global economy problem has a tendency to get me in a real funk. Everytime I turn on the news or go to a news website all I see is talk about people losing their jobs, everyone out of money, no one spending anything, businesses going under, it’s horrifying and scary. I live in one of those lucky states where the recession hasn’t nailed us like it has in California and Michigan, but if this goes on too long I’ll start to see some of the major downfalls here, too. I’ve seen local businesses close and it’s sad. I worry about those who are still going and wonder how long they can make it.

In these depressing times we may be forgoing the little things that give us a pick me up when we need it most. Whether it’s getting our hair done, a facial, or even just rearranging our furniture. Some people are in such dire straights they don’t dare do anything. But what about those who are needing to do something in order to sell a house or move on to the next stage of their life?

If you’re trying to see a house, you’ll likely see depressed home prices (and depressed sellers) but you can help to speed along the sale by doing a few touchups to the inside and outside. This gains curb appeal and gives they potential buyer some eye candy. So what can you do for super cheap?

For the inside you can cover stained furniture with sofa slipcovers, and get new cabinet knobs in the kitchen, bathroom or laundry room. There are tons of little ways you can fix things up.

For the exterior you should keep the yard mowed, do some painting touchups, if you have some money you could consider vinyl siding colors. Don’t forget about flowers, a neatly trimmed yard, even something simple like replacing a beat up mailbox with a shiny new one.

Why I Choose a Jogging Stroller

Posted by admin | Ideas and more | Wednesday 18 March 2009 1:54 pm

I was running on the treadmill at my local gym when a new mother hopped onto the treadmill next to me. Much to my surprise she was holding her baby. I asked her why she was carrying that new baby on a treadmill. She said she couldn’t bear to part with her little one, yet still wanted to get a workout in. After about ten minutes she was extremely tired and her baby was crying. Now what? Well within a few days I saw her again. This time she wasn’t at the gym. She was running outside the gym. She was jogging behind her nice, new jogging stroller. Mom was happier and her baby was happy too.

I have had several moms e-mail and ask “Is a jogging stroller right for me?” Well there are a few factors to consider.

First, if you prefer to run on the treadmill at the gym then you probably won’t need a jogging stroller. However, if you are like me and enjoy running outside and spending time with your baby then a jogging stroller is the best way to go.

When you choose to buy a jogging stroller don’t forget important safety features like a hand brake and wheel locks for easy stopping, safety belts and the five point harness. Your child’s safety should always come first. The five point harness is great for toddlers and small children.

Also consider your child’s comfort. You may want to look into a reclining seat and a canopy. It is also a good idea to wait until your child is holding his or her head up and sitting independently before using the jogging stroller. However, there are safety products you can buy if you would like to use your jogging stroller sooner.

When we’re running in cool or cold weather, we may be hot or comfortable in minimal clothing, but a child is not doing the exercise. Don’t forget to dress your little one in warm clothes, especially if you’re running or walking in the wind. Short runs are best with your child. Competing while pushing your running stroller is not recommended.

I prefer a jogging stroller versus a regular stroller because I enjoy being outside. I have found that my jogging stroller makes it a lot easier to push on non-paved roads and it moves at a faster pace

Shopping For Tables And Chairs

Posted by admin | Ideas and more | Tuesday 17 March 2009 1:40 pm

We discussed looking at second hand stores, especially for tables and chairs. She has a love seat and chair that she used in college that is still in good shape. Each of the children took there bedroom furniture when they left for college and my husband and I replaced it with new in our home.

Her room mate had the tables and chairs so she has never owned a set. She does not want her home to look pieced together, but she is afraid to go into debt any further than she already has with her mortgage. She does have a good job, but she is the newest person in the company and if there would be cut backs she would be the first to be let go.

In one of the used furniture stores we visited we found a nice tables and chairs set. The table stretched out of seat eight, however without the leaves it was a nice size table for four. It had two captains chairs and four straight chairs. She did not think she would have room for this set. I told her that she could put the four straight chairs around the table and buy cushions for the captains chairs and put them in her living room.

This would give her extra seating in the living room space and if she needed the chairs when entertaining she would have them. The tables and chairs were in good shape and also had a small china cabinet that matched. She bought the set and my husband and I gave her the cabinet as a house warming present. Her modest home is shaping up to be very cozy.

Selling Tips From A Real Estate Pro – Get Maxium Value For Your Home

Posted by admin | Ideas and more | Monday 16 March 2009 6:21 pm

Before each showing of your home to potential buyers, it is important to make a good first impression. Be sure your front entry has a sparkling door knocker and door knobs, and that front door and porch are clean and free of clutter.

Once inside your home should smell inviting so bake the quick and easy break and bake cookies or brownies, or put a drop of vanilla on the top of a light bulb for a welcome aroma. You can make the home seem more inviting by installing higher wattage light bulbs and opening all the window treatments to let the light flood your home.

Buyers want to visualize themselves and their lifestyle in their new home, so to make your house more neutral, please distance yourself emotionally. This means putting away all family photos, awards, etc that are specific to your family. Also removing excess clutter by renting a storage unit or having a garage sale will make your home appear larger and more inviting.

You may want to host an open house while you still have furniture in your home, so buyers can visualize furniture placement with the layout and space available. It is the responsibility of the homeowner to disclose any past or potential issues that may effect the value and continued desirability of your advertised property. Real estate law varies from state to state, and some require you to reveal everything from a leak in the faucet to a neighbor who may be a nuisance. Be sure you are aware of the disclosure laws for your area.

As an additional incentive to attract an offer on your home, you might consider offering a one-year warranty to the new buyer. This often gives them the peace of mind to proceed with buying your home. When a potential buyer starts looking for a property, they look online first. A recent survey shows that 82% start with an internet search, due to the comfort and convenience. Only 12 % find the home of their dreams in a newspaper ad. It is important to let people know your home is for sale!

Many buyers prefer a video tour or virtual tour to eliminate the homes that won’t fit their needs, and to save their valuable time. Don’t appear too anxious or a potential buyer may think they can get a steal! Did you know surveys taken by the National Association of Realtors prove that most buyers seek out a for sale by owner when they are looking for a bargain, and automatically offer 10 percent under the seller’s asking price? Don’t offer too much information about your needs and plans- a buyer could use that information to justify a low offer.

A good marketing plan is essential to selling your home. Find a dedicated professional in Real Estate that knows how to stage your home to sell. Better agents offer advice on furniture placement and redesign of your home to maximize the chances of a quick and profitable sale. With each inquiry on your home, your chance of selling it soon increases.
